Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you have a price list?

A: Gushor prefers to work closely with a client to customize each analytical program and optimize the results for them. For longer term projects we can discuss package deals including development and interpretation. Please contact us for a price list.

Q: Do we ship samples to Gushor Inc., or will Gushor Inc. collect the samples?

A: We can obtain core samples from any of the various core storage facilities located in Calgary, or samples can be shipped to us directly at our shipping address.

Q: What can you tell me about the method you use for viscosity correlations?

A: We perform viscosity measurements using a conventional method as well as with our chemical viscosity method. With our chemical method, what we call ProxVisc, we correlate measured viscosity data from mechanically extracted oil or bitumen to key molecular compounds that vary over the range of viscosity of a given sample set. With this type of calibration data set, a variety of non-linear correlation tools, especially neural networks, are used to calibrate a transform of composition to viscosity, based on a calibration suite of oils/bitumens. Subsequent samples can be solvent extracted and the viscosity estimated using the calibrated correlation.

Q: Can you provide standard biomarker analyses?

A: Yes, we analyze for these in our standard quantitative GC-MS analyses. For the saturated hydrocarbons we analyze 30 ions, including all typical biomarker compounds including the 3-5 ring terpanes. For aromatic hydrocarbons we analyze 60 ions for aromatic hydrocarbons and thioaromatics.

Q: Do you provide analyses of some of the more exotic compounds such as thiophenes, phenols, furans, pyrroles, and pyridine/quinoline structures?

A: We routinely analyze thiophenes and have the ability to analyze carbazoles and phenolic compounds. All our methods are customized for heavy oil and tar sand samples.

Q: Do you provide both data files and hard copy profiles for the analyses?

A: Yes, with the option for detailed interpretation of the data by a specialized geochemist.
