IS YOUR VISCOSITY DATA CONSISTENT AND RELIABLE?

Heavy oil or bitumen core samples require centrifugation for long periods of time under partial vacuum, resulting in the preferential loss of volatile (light end) oil compounds, and significant increases in viscosity of the oil sample during extraction. The longer the centrifugation process the greater the light-end volatilization from the extracted sample, and the greater the increase in oil viscosity. In addition, the pressure applied by centrifugal force is much greater than production or geologic burial pressures, and is unique to each style of centrifuge, resulting in varying amounts of extracted bitumen of varying compositions. We have developed proprietary mechanical extraction methods to obtain oil samples without use of solvents or losses of light ends.
