Reservoir Engineering
Given the heterogeneity and complexity of heavy oil and bitumen reservoirs, it is necessary that the operating strategy and well placement in the reservoir must be carefully chosen to maximize the ultimate recovery and economic results of the recovery process. This not only involves tuning injection and production strategy but also how wells (or wellpairs or pads) are arranged and placed vertically in the reservoir.
Gushor has special optimization capabilities to provide the optimal operating strategy or well placement to achieve virtually any objective function with its automated optimization software tools. The objective function can be a process measure e.g. steam to oil ratio or an economic measure e.g. net present value. We have powerful optimization software that can rigorously optimize any set of variables that can be specified in a reservoir simulation input file. For example, the string of adjustable parameters could be the steam injection pressures for each cycle of cyclic steam stimulation. Alternatively, it could be the steam injection pressure evolution through the life of a SAGD wellpair.
Optimization tools include genetic algorithms, simulated annealing, particle swarm, ant colony optimization, and Newton methods. Through our extensive experience, we tune the optimization parameters to improve the performance of the optimization engine.
